“Trademarks” have been around for longer than you might think. The earliest known cases of trademarks can be traced back to cave paintings from back in the stone age, and the branding of livestock to help identify someone’s personal property. However, the Bakers’ Marking Law was the first trademark to ever be registered. Enacted by the British Parliament in the year 1266, the Barkers’ Marking Law made it a requirement for every baker to specifically mark the bread that they had made.
