While the exact number of chess copies sold is unknown, more than 3 million units are sold in the United States every year alone. Checkers, another classic game, ranks second. It’s estimated that more than 50 billion copies of checkers have been sold since the game was introduced in 3000 B.C.E. Coming in third is Monopoly, a classic that many have grown up playing. This real estate game, which is inspired by the streets of Atlantic City, has sold 275 million+ units since it came out in 1935. It’s well-known for its iconic game pieces like the top hat, thimble, and race car.
