We are back for another wonderful round of Let’s Admire! This time, we are exploring the art of quilling by admiring the top 5 posts of all time on Reddit’s r/Quilling. What is quilling? Quilling is an art form that involves using strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, pinched, and glued together to create decorative designs. Let’s roll!
Sea shell
Artist: mayumayu1223
Wow, this is so unique and gorgeous! I agree with the top comment: “This is gorgeous!! Love the various medias”. This would be a delightful piece of art to hang in a boutique bed and breakfast by the sea.
I finished The Starry Night, and framed it, every friend who visited my house loved it
Artist: Rain-Fo
I absolutely love to see interpretations of Starry Night in different styles and mediums, and this is no exception! The artist did a brilliant job achieving a sense of movement in the clouds.
The wife made another one..
Artist: Navneet Kaur (you can follow her on Instagram!)
The top comment says: “Does she sell? Would love one of these for our wedding.” My first thought when seeing this is that it would be fantastic for a summer wedding in a lush, colorful garden.
Here is magnificent another creation from Navneet Kaur:
The Path to Paradise, my first new piece of the year!
Artist: electricmama4life
Wow, just wow, I want to float away in that paper paradise! This is such a fun and vibrant piece. Click the link to see more detailed photos and angles. It truly is fantastic. In the comments, the artist stated that it took around 50 hours to complete.
Be mindful (my first quilling typography piece!)
Artist: that_other_person1
The top comment is from the artist themselves: “I wanted to make a typography piece for quilltober, and the word ‘mindful’ came to… well, mind. I think it’s important to be mindful, by both definitions of the word- by being aware of who you are, the state of something, being rational, et cetera, as well as in the sense of mindfulness, or being in the present moment. This is also, ironically, what the act of quilling entails- being aware in the present moment.” Love it!
BONUS: Beautiful quilled piece that my mom made of my friend’s corgi (OC)
Artist: ericdz5’s mom
Oh my goodness, the level of detail is breathtaking! There is so much movement and expression in the face that the pup looks like it could come to life at any moment. Wow!
Here are a few more of my favorites from the subreddit:
BONUS: It’s been a year since I started it and it was, by far, the most challenging quill I ever done. Countless hours of work, back pain, loads of paper and glue but its finally over and I’m very happy with the result. ❤
Artist: tetta_86
Ahhh, I love the reflection on the water! The top comment states: “This is one of the best quills i have ever seen. Its bryggen in Bergen, Norway! Good job!”
BONUS: Huge Sunset quilled picture
Artist: that_other_person1
Another masterpiece by the artist who made the “Be Mindful” piece! I love the texture of the water – it is like an impressionist painting but with paper.
BONUS: Great Blue Heron
Artist: rsk222
It’s incredible how the artist captured the appearance of feathers with just paper.
