Fatal car accidents are all too common an occurrence in the United States. So many factors can affect whether a car accident becomes deadly, but a car’s safety features are a major influence on the outcome of a crash. That’s why this infographic from Convoy Car Shipping is so important. It collected a massive amount of data on fatal crashes and vehicle makes and models to determine which vehicles might be lacking in the safety department.
The team used data from sources like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other government agencies to draw their conclusions. They broke down their data collection methods so we can make comparisons. They showed us which vehicles were often involved in fatal crashes, then calculated the ratio of fatal accidents compared to the number of each vehicle on the road. They concluded that the Ford Ranger pickup truck has been involved in the highest number of fatal accidents.
The research identifies these vehicles as raising the most safety concerns:
- Chevrolet Silverado
- Ford Expedition
- Nissan Maxima
- Jeep Cherokee
- Ford Mustang
- Chevrolet Camaro
- Ford Taurus
- Dodge Charger
- Chevrolet Blazer/Tahoe
- Ford Ranger
While the above list focuses on cars and trucks, overall crash statistics paint a different picture. Harley Davidson motorcycles rank as the second most hazardous vehicles overall.
However, this comparison between automobiles and motorcycles may not provide an accurate representation of vehicle safety. Motorcycles inherently lack many of the safety features present in cars and trucks, which can skew the data significantly.
