Exploring Every Upcoming Star Wars Project

The galaxy far, far away keeps giving us more space to explore. In the next few years, there are dozens of upcoming movies and television shows in the Star Wars universe to expand and enhance this beloved sci-fi lore. Whether you vibe with the Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters, princesses, or scoundrels of the galaxy, you’ll find an upcoming Star Wars project that will set your daydreams on the stars.

Confirmed Upcoming Movies

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will step down, with Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan set to replace her. This signals a shift in the Star Wars franchise. Many fans sense a disturbance in the Force. They think the franchise has lagged in recent years, so a leadership change could inject fresh life and excitement into the creative works and the fan base. Here are the movies we can look forward to.

The Mandalorian and Grogu (release date on May 22, 2026)

Filming has already wrapped on Jon Favreau’s film, which follows the events of season 3 of The Mandalorian. Many assume the film will take the place of season 4. This might wrap up the series as we know it. The fate of the season is unknown at this time. Favreau promises that his film is a satisfying close to the current story arc. But this doesn’t mean the door is shut on future adventures for our favorite space dad and powerful baby.

Star Wars: Starfighter (release date on May 28, 2027)

This Ryan Gosling-led film will take place five years after the events in The Rise of Skywalker. It’s time to get a look at what happened to the galaxy after the fall of the old guard. Gosling plays a solitary pilot whose style reminds me of a certain scruffy-headed nerf-herder. The movie is directed by Shawn Levy, who also helmed Deadpool and Wolverine. This project is marketed as a standalone story separate from the Skywalker saga.

Dave Filoni’s Crossover Film

Filoni’s new film is said to tie together the TV shows Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian. This sounds like a rewarding end to the major arc rooted in present Star Wars stories. It’s teased as a climactic event in which the tension between the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic comes to a head. Some fans are eager to see Filoni incorporate the fan-favorite Thrawn Trilogy novels. There’s a rumor that this film will be called Heir to the Empire, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

The New Jedi Order Film

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the director of Ms. Marvel, is directing a film that continues the story of Rey, who has taken on the name Skywalker. At the end of The Rise of Skywalker, it was clear that the future of the Jedi, and indeed all Force-sensitive people, rests in Rey’s hands. She will try to rebuild the Jedi Order, and we’ll see how she fared 15 years after her showdown with Palpatine. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a release date for this film.

James Mangold’s Film

Fans of the expanded universe and deep Star Wars lore are excited to learn more about James Mangold’s untitled film, which is said to return to the origins of the Jedi Order. It is said to tell the story of the first humans to make contact with and channel the Force. The creative team’s vision is that of a biblical epic. For years, fans have been teased with the possibility of a Star Wars story that tells the tale of the first Jedi. However, in January 2026, Kathleen Kennedy said that this project is on the “back burner” for now, so it seems we’re in for a wait.

Confirmed Upcoming TV Series

In the years since the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the Star Wars universe has continued to tell stories through Disney+ television shows. These include big-budget live-action series and beloved animated series aimed at younger children and adults alike. Here’s what we know about future Star Wars series.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord (release date on April 6, 2026)

At the 2025 Star Wars Celebrations, fans were surprised and excited to learn that the next animated Star Wars series will focus on Sith Lord Maul. The story is expected to span from his final confrontation with Ahsoka to his fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi. There are twenty years between those events, during which Maul built a criminal empire. The trailer suggests that Maul might take on an apprentice.

Star Wars: Ahsoka – Season 2

The first season of Ahsoka made waves in the fandom, solidifying Anakin’s former Padawan as a fan favorite. We will likely see Ahsoka, Shin, Sabine, and Baylan confront the Mortis gods. These beings represent all sides of the Force. Meanwhile, Hera and Ezra gear up for war with the Imperial Remnant. Filming for this season has wrapped, and there’s no release date yet, but it’s expected in late 2026.

Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi

This project is a spinoff of the Star Wars: Visions miniseries. Star Wars: Visions Presents is a limited series that will continue on from the “Ninth Jedi” shorts from Visions. This story certainly seemed ripe for more mythos and stories.  Expected sometime in 2026.

Projects With Unknown Fates

There are plenty of shows and films that have been suggested, hinted at, or proposed, but Lucasfilm has either put them on pause or hasn’t given them the green light yet. Many fans were disappointed to learn that The Acolyte won’t get a season 2, but with many fan petitions circulating, that could change. The same goes for the film The Hunt for Ben Solo. Actor Adam Driver thought this movie would never materialize and told fans he fought to continue the character’s story, even going so far as to develop “the coolest” script with Stephen Soderbergh. Lucasfilm said yes, but Disney CEO Bob Iger said no. Fans rallied, and now Kathleen Kennedy hinted at Star Wars Celebration that the film could happen someday.

Fans are also clamoring for a season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett. Disney hasn’t confirmed whether we’ll get one. A Filoni project called Rangers of the New Republic also remains in limbo. We were also promised a Lando mini-series. There is no release date yet, but it seems Donald Glover turned in a script developed alongside Justin Simien, a creative mind behind the Dear White People series. And as for our favorite droids? We were promised a film on Disney+ starring C-3PO and R2-D2, but there are few details on the project at this point.

No matter your favorite character or era, it seems there’s something to look forward to, or at least hope for, in the future of the Star Wars franchise!
