Poll: Which Video Game Movie Sucked the Most?

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and horrible video game-based movies.

In 1993, I was six years old and couldn’t believe that there was finally going to be a movie based on the side-scrolling action of the Super Mario Bros. series. One of the greatest games of all-time, Super Mario World had been released for the Super Nintendo just two years prior, and the thought of seeing it brought to the big screen was an amazing thought.

Instead, we got barely based on the iconic series, and were given one of the worst movies imaginable. Even at six years old, I knew that it was terrible at the theater. The film has a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is 14 points too high.

So, let’s hear from you. Which film based on a video game is the worst?

UPDATE 09/02/2021: This poll was hosted on an outside vendor that is no longer in service. If there is enough interest, we will bring this poll back manually and build it from the ground up.

Update 02/21/2025: With the recent success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), we absolutely want to revisit this topic soon.
