1. One Battle After Another — 16 major awards won
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was the standout winner of the 2026 awards season, taking home 16 awards across the three major ceremonies. This action-comedy-thriller features a stacked cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor, and marks the feature-film debut of Chase Infiniti. 2. Sinners — 9 major awards won
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners came in second place with nine awards. The movie stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers who return to Mississippi in 1932, hoping to build something new, only to confront the violence of the Jim Crow era and a supernatural evil. The cast also features Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo. The film’s unique blend of period drama, folklore, and horror helped it stand out during the 2026 awards season.
Sinners won a total of nine awards across the three major movie award ceremonies. It received four Oscars: Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein secured third place with six major awards during the 2026 award season. The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as The Creature, with Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz in supporting roles. This reimagining of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel explores Frankenstein’s chaotic relationship with his monstrous creation.
Frankenstein was a passion project for del Toro, who had long dreamed of making this film because of his lifelong fascination with monsters. While Frankenstein did not win a Golden Globe in 2026, the six awards it won at the Oscars and BAFTAs remain an impressive takeaway from the 2026 film awards season. 4. Hamnet — 5 major awards won
Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet earned five major film awards, placing it fourth on our list. The movie stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William Shakespeare, with supporting performances from Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn. It tells the poignant story of love and loss that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet, focusing on Agnes, William, and the tragic death of their son.
During the 2026 film awards season, Hamnet received five major accolades, three of which went to Jessie Buckley for her incredible portrayal of Agnes Shakespeare. Buckley’s performance truly shone, capturing the attention of various academies. She won the “Best Actress” award at all three major award shows. Hamnet won an Oscar for Best Actress, along with two Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. The film also won two BAFTAs for Best Leading Actress and Outstanding British Film.
The most notable awards for Hamnet were Jessie Buckley’s wins. While she had previously been nominated for an Oscar, this was her first win. It also marked her first Golden Globe nomination and win, as well as her first BAFTA win. 5. KPop Demon Hunters — 4 major awards won
Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters rounded out the top five, winning four major awards during the 2026 film award season. This animated hit features a voice cast that includes Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo. The film’s premise centers on K-pop superstars who, when not selling out stadiums, adopt secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from supernatural threats. With a fun mix of action, comedy, and fantasy, the film resonated with viewers, prompting Netflix to announce that a sequel is in the works.
