The Results Are In: What Was Voted the Best Video Game Console of All Time?

Thanks for voting! This poll was launched on October 14, 2020 and we’ve decided to officially close the poll to reveal the official results today, on April 8, 2025. It’s important to note that because this poll was created prior to the launch of the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S, those consoles are not included.

Playstation 2 Has Been Voted the Best Video Game Console of All Time.

That’s right—the people have spoken. Of the 982 folks who voted for their favorite video game console, 204, or 20.34% of the vote, went to the Playstation 2. It really should come as no surprise that the PS2 is as popular as it is; as of 2025, it remains the best-selling console of all time, having sold at least 160 million units during its 13 year run from 2000 to 2013.

While the system was revolutionary in its own right, the incredible roster of games released for it is what truly made it special. Grand Theft Auto III, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, and Max Payne are just a few of the titles we remember the most fondly from all those years ago.

3. Super Nintendo – 11.37% (114 votes)

Since the invention of the first video game in 1958, gaming has gone from an obscure hobby to mainstream entertainment. Companies such as Coleco, Mattel, Atari, and Sega have created video game consoles over the years (huge shout out to the incredible Sega Dreamcast), but the big players in the industry today are Sony (Playstation), Nintendo (Wii and Switch), and Microsoft (Xbox).
